Inside the Bedroom

Inside the Bedroom

Considering the enjoyment I get from interiors (and the fact we’re spending a whole lot more time around them), I’m ashamed that my last interior post was 2019, so I thought I’d come back with an update on our bedroom.

At the start of the year, we’d actually put in an offer on a new house however fast forward to April and it all fell through, and whilst we couldn’t continue our search (thanks COVID!), we decided that we’d prepare our current home should we be bringing the new arrival back here (which is looking more and more likely..). And whilst we’re only renting this place, our landlord lives above us and was more than happy for us to freshen the place up - so we did just that.

Admittedly there’s still some things we want to add and get put up (like the frame above the bed, and some hanging plants), but with a lick of fresh paint, some new cushions and a smaller wardrobe, it’s made such a difference. And it’s definitely where I’ve been spending most of my time…

I’m a big fan of the neutral tones, and so for me, painting a room white is always a good starting point. I like to add colours in to rooms in the way of accessories, so for a bedroom that being cushions, throws and prints. Bold styles aren’t really my thing, but I love the mustard and rust tones that I’m slowly adding in. We’re actually going to buy the Nadia bed from Habitat when we move, so I was also mindful that the cushions and throws we bought now, would fit perfectly on the new bed - and that they will.

A chest of drawers isn’t the most ideal next to your head but when space is limited, this seemed the best solution, and actually having the top drawer as an underwear/all-your-bedside-table-bits you don’t want out is keeping our room much tidier than it’s been before!

The wardrobe was the biggest thing in updating it. There’d been a corner wardrobe that was left here when we moved in, and whilst it was practical, space saving or ideal, we just stuck with it for two years - but as we were now much more conscious of space, we decided to keep the flat part of the corner wardrobe (I believe it’s part of the Ikea PAX range) and got ourselves this open wardrobe. We removed the door to the Ikea one, and popped them up next to each other. For us, we wanted enough drawer space for Tim and then a long enough rail for my mid dresses - and this felt like the best compromise in the space we have. We’ll also then be able to take the open wardrobe to our next place, which will work well in either the babies bedroom or as a guest bedroom wardrobe.

I also love the set up with the step ladder, and whilst it’s very aesthetic it’s not really practical - so we’ll be replacing it with a big rattan basket that’ll end up storing blankets and baby muslins. But for now, it’s staying and looking pretty!

We picked up this print from Desenio, as I loved the colours and simplicity of it - plus it felt like it just brought the room together in a subtle way. Our cushions were from H&M and I am honestly so in love with them, that I think i’ll be ordering them for our living room too. You can’t quite beat a big soft cushion! And as for the throw, this was a Zara number, which I don’t think goes the best with the rest of the bedding, but it kind of brings the wood floor and any wicker baskets we have lying around all together. You win some, you lose some as they say!

Overall, for majority of it being just a lick of paint and a new wardrobe, I’m pleased with how fresh this room now feels, and whoever said that painting a dark room darker clearly doesn’t like light spaces. And for a room that was the least liked in this house, it’s where I’ve been spending most of my time.. and probably will now until we move…!
