Being a girl

I guess you could say that I'm not really your typical girl.. I don't spend many hours at the makeup counter searching for the perfect colour (I assume this is what ladies do?) and I don't really 'do' anything to my hair, other than, y'know, the straighten and go effect. So in words, I'm pretty basic (or boring), but I'm cool with that. An extra half hour in bed really does make up for those occasional times (or more) when you're told that you look a little rough.. Yes, maybe, but honey, I'll still look the same tomorrow! SOZ.
Last year however, my friend decided to bite the bullet and bought me a blusher, and it was a big step. But fast forward to now, and I love to brush on a small amount, making those cheeks rosy, and fresh, so much so that I invested in a cheery lipstick. And I've never looked back since. Last month I dug out this incredibly old Benefit set and attempted eyeshadow. Like seriously, when I say old.. We're talking for an 18th birthday present! Wild huh?
Sometimes it makes me a little sad, because I'm almost 'clueless' at half of the makeup out there. Whilst having my brows waxed last week (I've had these done every two weeks since I was 15 FYI) I was so intrigued with the HD Brows kit that was being applied that I tried to recreate it at home with brown eyeshadow. Yeah. It didn't work. And yeah, it was a cringeful moment that I should never ever mention again...
But, just because I don't buy makeup, don't wear jewellery and I use the same nail varnish for months on end, doesn't make me any less of a girl. I still like dresses, hug every animal I see, and cry all the time (like, all the time!). I guess I just prefer to spend my money on cakes, kittens and underwear. And I'm totally cool with that. I like cake.

  6. I don't really think there's a 'typical' girl nowadays, all of us love so many different things! I've only just recently gotten a handle on applying makeup, I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one :)

  11. I have just started dipping my toes in when it comes to wearing makeup and putting in more effort to wear something nice. The more products I discover, and of course the better I get at applying them, the more fun I have! I still wear minimal products, but it is fun to play around with. Especially when you find something you really enjoy wearing!

  12. Oh how I wish I'd never discovered the wonders of make up, firstly, I'd be so much better off and secondly, my skin would probably be in better condition but hey ho, if you've got blonde eyelashes like me, then mascara if you're best friend! Sometimes I think people have a perception of me of being really girly, because I do my hair, and make up and like dresses, but I'm not ashamed to get down and dirty with the lads...each to their own you know! xx

  13. I like this post a lot! Everyone I read is so comfortable and knows everything about make up and then there is me. I feel uncomfortable with make up the feel of it on my skin feels weird. I get flustered deciding what shade I should get and end up giving up or I don't go over to the make up counter in the first place because I'm scared of the sales women judging me! It's nice to read a simple honest post about the intro into make up! Its humbling! Thank you! :)

  14. I am SO bad at make-up and doing my hair, my mum never really wore it so everything I know is self-taught and I have made LOTS of mistakes along the way (let's not talk about my bright green eyeshadow phase!)
