Being on our own can sometimes be a pure delight doing what you wish with nobody to tell you otherwise, but being on your own can sometimes pretty much suck. And this week it did. So instead of feeling sorry for myself (there had been too much of that going on lately) I decided to do something fun. Fun for one. So I had a tea party.
It was a cold Sunday afternoon, the weather had snuck into my immune system and I decided that the housework could wait another week whilst I made time for myself. I closed the curtains, lit the candles and turned on the fairy lights, chose a light hearted film and waited patiently for the kettle to boil.
Our cupboards are always full of treats and nibbles, so I took out a handful of my favourites biscuits and a few slices of carrot cake to keep my belly full and happy. My beautiful teapot was filled to the brim full of piping hot water and three tasty teabags to ensure that I didn't have to leave the comfort of my sofa for a fair few hours. And you know what? It was actually really nice. Afternoon tea is normally enjoyed with friends, gossiping over mouthwatering treats and sipping warm drinks, but this weekend I learnt that you can still do just as fun things on your own. And the plus side of afternoon tea for one... There's always more cake for you!
