One Hundred and Forty Five

Maxi: River Island. Blouse: Internacionale.

I always loved the maxi's and would forever stare at them wishing I could wear one. But even after trying on literally 30 of them, I felt the need to give up and realise I just had to be a slut and wear shorter skirts. However, whilst out shopping with Mama Mcfred last month I picked this up, and fell in love, and I told myself that it DID look OK. I wanted it for Paris. So I bought it. And I stared at it for many mornings, in my wardrobe.
Yet, now I'm back to my problem again. Does this even suit me? What can I wear it with?! I popped it on once with the short sleeved knit a while back, and loved the colours, yet didn't like how two baggy pieces made me look like a fat frump flump. So today I tried it with my blouse, but I'm still a little unsure. Which saw me spending majority of last night, trawling the internet for a simple black bandeau top (trust me it wasn't easy at this time of year!) and so I shall be waiting for this to arrive, in the hope that it can cure my maxiskirtdilemasituation! I'm hoping that the simple tight fitting bandeau top will give me some shape, and still make the maxi look a little dressed up, and help me freeze to death in these temperatures!
Oh well, here's hoping! Hurry up Mr Postman.

I love it - looks great with the blouse :) I'd wear it with a plain tight fitting top [hit up Primark - full of cheap basics!], a blazer and a huge scarf x

  4. YES! It does suit you! I spent ages looking for a good maxi & found a great one in Primark (& so cheap that it wouldn't matter if I decided I didnt like it). I hope you have a lovely time in Paris xx

  6. It definitely looks ok, love it! I understand though, I find it hard to style long flowy skirts too, but I do think you look lovely! :) xx

  7. You do suit it, you look lovely :) Loving the print of the skirt and that little collared top! I recently just wore a maxi skirt too, haha. I too was unsure at first but then thought to myself, it's only fashion. Let's just have fun! :)

  8. I think you're rocking the maxi. The main issue is what shoes to put under there? That's the bit that has me confused.

  9. I'm a massive promoter of the maxi even for smaller girls, my line is basically -if Nicole Richie can >rock< one at 5"1 and about 30lbs so can anyone. You look absolutely beautiful here :) really bohemian but not too hippyhappy you still have a little edge with your hair + the collared top which I love :). I would team it with so much ha-ha - thin jumpers or slouchy tee's tucked in, sheer shirts again tucked it and tops like you have on here :) perfecto!

  10. i definitely know how you feel with regards to the maxi skirt, never felt like i could wear one but felt like i was missing out when my friends were absolutely rocking them over summer! i just feel like i'd look like i was wearing my mum's clothing!

you do look wonderful in this though, the pattern looks adorable and i think the black blouse works well! maybe that's inspiration for another post.. dressing the maxi for the seasons. :) who knows. you'll HAVE to let me know about paris and your favourite spots and places so i can check them out when i go next month! xxxx

  11. Ugh maxi skirts are the most awkward thing for me. I don't think they suit me, and it's hard to find one that is long enough for me and doesn't end before the ankle (totally not a good look!). I love how the skirt looks with the blouse you've chosen though! I think the collar really complements the pattern on the skirt. Really, the obvious thing we need to discuss here is this: why the heck don't you have a black bandeau?! That's like one of the fundamental rules in dressing yourself: "make sure one has a black bandeau within one's reach". Haha! Basically I don't have any tips for the maxi skirt because I'm useless at them myself, but I think this looks great! x

  12. I think it looks all right with the fitted top in this pic. I do avoid maxis, though, cuz I'm so short it looks like I lost me legs!

  16. You definitely should, they are literally so beautiful! And you feel like a real girl in them, I just find them tricky to suit smaller people! But definitely get one!

  17. This was exactly what I thought too Sheri! Mine was in the sale half price, so I couldn't resist! :-)

  19. OH MY GOODNESS! This is EXACTLY what I thought too! I want to wear heels but I have that fear.. you know, the one where your feet are showing on a long skirt! I want to ideally wear sandals.. not sure the toes would appreciate this weather!

  20. Oh Sarah you absolute babe! Team small! Whoop. I love the thin jumper idea (more things to buy!) and slouchy tees sound so lovely, but also lacking on them. I'm literally so unpractical! You are like my style queen!x

  21. Haha, I was the same. I would stare at everyones SO much but knew I couldn't pull it off. Then I bit the bullet and thought who cares! Now Its the trickyness of what shoes to wear. I could go for heels, to make me look taller, but I have that fear of showing my shoes on long skirts/dresses! LOLZ.
I shall let you know about where I went in Paris beautiful lady x

  26. Love the print on your skirt, so pretty! I'm always worried maxi skirts look too long on me (if that is possible?!) and make me look even shorter! I think it looks nice with the top you're wearing :) x

  27. lol. totally agree with you! two years ago, you'd never see me wearing maxi's... as i always felt that it would drown my 5'3" frame. but i officially bought one (& then more) and fell in love with it!

love the prints on yours! :)

ps. just wanted to let you now that this whole month, i'm hosting a giveaway every week! currently, there's a stunning bodycon dress up for grabs! (the retail price is $230!) i hope you'll stop by soon & join!

  29. ooo you've changed to Disque everyone is on this right now and I am SO tempted to change over. How did you find the switch? Love this skirt it's stunning! But I totally understand your dilemma, I can do the standard maxi which is stretchy and tighter fitting but flowy ones I can't get to grips with, I have a blue sheer one and always feel twice the size I normally am! This suits you though so keep working with it :)

  33. Thanks babe! I completely know what you mean, but if you find the right one they do actually work! try a patterned one, it takes the focus off short legs :-) x
